A unique three hour crash course for absolute beginners who want to learn the khol mridanga drum. This course is great for those that don’t have a lot of time yet would like to learn all the basics of this most beautiful instrument, used by Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s associates in sankirtan over 500 years ago.
We will have the great honour of all our seminars will being taught by international kirtaneer Balarama Nityananda, who was trained in the world famous Mayapur gurukula and has gone on to perform kirtan and teach workshops in various countries and institutions since.
This short course will aim to get all students used to playing in rhythm, as well as introduce some of the basic mridanga beats universally used in kirtan. By the end of the sessions participants will also learn about the mood and purpose of kirtan, as well as have opportunities to practice what they have learnt.
Please note this course only has 15 places. Each participant MUST BRING THEIR OWN mridanga, there will not be any spare mridangas on the day.
You can enquire about the availability of mridangas to buy from our bakery, otherwise the teacher recommends purchasing from this website: http://kishorimusic.com/
